TEFL Union takes COVID whistleblowing case to tribunal – and secures payout!

The TEFL Workers’ Union is happy to report that we have successfully supported a member through a tribunal.  At issue was whether a holiday party held at a central London English language school was COVID safe and whether one of our members suffered detriment for whistleblowing when they raised concerns with management.

Despite attempting to resolve matters internally, the union was left with little choice but to take the matter to tribunal to ensure justice. In the end, the steadfast legal and moral support of the union meant that a last-minute settlement was arranged between the worker and the school.

The message here is clear: employers in the TEFL industry can be held to account. Our health and safety is important. The TEFL Workers’ Union will always have the backs of our members when they exercise their rights at work.
