We all want and deserve decent working conditions. But the experience of far too many of us is precarious work, a lack of communication from management, and wages that mean we struggle to get a mortgage or start a family. On top of this, far too many of us only receive the statutory minimum when it comes to annual leave, pensions, or redundancy pay.
In short, all workers need and deserve a voice on the job.
But that won’t come unless we’re willing to stand up, stand together, and speak in one voice with our workmates. But this isn’t always easy. Organising can be hard work and having a template and active support from a union can make all the difference.
The TEFL Workers’ Union, as part of the larger IWW, is happy to offer workplace organiser training free of charge to all our members.
The training covers the basics of workplace organising: from those simple one-one-one conversations with your workmates all the way up to taking collective action to put pressure on the bosses.
The training can be run over one day or over a series of evening sessions. It’s designed to be a very practical training; a toolbox that means you can hit the ground running on speaking to your workmates and fighting together to make your workplace better.
The workplace organiser training is not a legal training. You’re not expected to be a lawyer and it only touches on the most basic aspects of employment legislation. If you are interested in a more in-depth knowledge of your rights at work, we also offer a free union representative training to all our members.
If you’re interested in either our workplace organiser or union rep training, don’t hesitate to reach out! As always, you can reach a representative of the TEFL Workers’ Union at [email protected]
