The TEFL Workers’ Union is proud to sponsor a public meeting on Saturday October 11th, to be held at the IWW office in Manchester. We’ll be joined by some of the Malvern House London teachers to hear their story of the first English language school strike in UK history!
When: Saturday October 11
Where: St. Wilfrids Enterprise Centre, Birchvale Cl, Manchester M15 5BJ
Cost: Free!
Teachers at Malvern House London are leading the fight for a better TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) industry. Not only are they holding the first UK strike in the history of the industry, they’re doing it at one of the only publicly-traded multinational schools and they hit the ground running with two days of strike action right out the gate!
We’re hosting this event in Manchester not only because fellow workers from the Manchester IWW have been so supportive, but because Malvern House has a second location there. We’ve already been leafleting staff and students at Malvern House Manchester, but we want to use the meeting as a way to garner support from the Manchester TEFL community and the trade union movement in the city.
The struggle of the Malvern House teachers is the struggle too many of us face everyday: low wages, managers who don’t care about the rules, a boss who puts profit above all else.
And a victory for the Malvern House teachers is a victory for all of us, too.
So, join us in Manchester on October 11th to show these brave workers that you’ve got their back! Snacks and drinks provided by the union.
Work in a Manchester language school? Want rid of zero-hours contracts? A proper pay scale? Paid sick days? It’s [email protected] to speak to an organiser.
